Suva, Fiji – The Fiji Development Bank (FDB) will be hosting the landmark 50th Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and the Pacific (ADFIAP) Annual Meeting in Fiji in 2027.
Fiji Development Bank on behalf of the country secured the hosting rights during the ADFIAP Board Meeting at the 49th Annual Meeting of the ADFIAP, held in Colombo, Sri Lanka on 23-25 September 2026.
This selection reflects the confidence of member institutions in Fiji’s ability to convene the meeting of development finance leaders from across the Asia-Pacific region.
The event is expected to attract representatives from development banks, financial institutions, policymakers, and development partners from ADFIAP’s network spanning 42 countries and 97 member institutions, making it one of the region’s most influential development finance networks.
The Bank also received a prestigious Merit Award in recognition of its pioneering efforts through the FDB Sustainable Blue Finance Facility. The award acknowledges FDB’s commitment to financing initiatives that promote the sustainable use and protection of Fiji’s ocean resources, while supporting economic growth, livelihoods and resilience within communities.
In a further recognition of Fiji’s growing influence in regional development finance, FDB Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Filimone Waqabaca, was elected as one of two Vice Chairmen of ADFIAP during the Board Meeting held on 24 September 2026.
This appointment positions Fiji at the forefront of discussions shaping the future direction of development finance across the Asia-Pacific region.
Mr. Waqabaca said the recognition reflected Fiji’s growing leadership in sustainable and innovative development finance through the Fiji Development Bank .
“These achievements are a testament to the commitment and dedication of the Fiji Development Bank in delivering positive impactful development outcomes for Fiji. The recognition of our Sustainable Blue Finance Facility highlights the importance of sustainable financing solutions in addressing climate and environmental challenges while creating economic opportunities for our people. We are also equally honoured that Fiji has been entrusted to host ADFIAP’s 50th Annual Meeting in 2027. This milestone event will provide a valuable opportunity to showcase Fiji’s development journey and strengthen partnerships that advance sustainable growth across the region,” he said.
Mr. Waqabaca added that the recognition and appointments further reinforce FDB’s commitment to delivering innovative financial solutions that support national development priorities while contributing to regional dialogue on sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
The ADFIAP Annual Meeting will provide an important platform for regional discussions on sustainable development, climate finance, financial inclusion, innovation, and strategies to accelerate economic growth across the Asia-Pacific region. The meeting will also provide Fiji with an opportunity to showcase its development priorities, investment potential, rich cultural heritage, and commitment to sustainable and inclusive development.
